Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

Shoplifting - London Road, Headington

Action

The Oxford North East Neighbourhood team have received numerous reports of thefts from shops on London road. As a result we have conducted regular high visibility patrols and shop visits. As well as operations targeting offenders and prosecuting those where possible. The area has been added to our patrol plans so there will be an increase in uniformed presence to disrupt this offending behaviour. We will continue working closely with the OP-Purchase team to assist them in their arrests and enquiries relating to shopliftings in the area.

This month, the team located and arrested a prolific shoplifter who had been committing offences. The efforts of the team resulted in the suspect being charged with 9 offences of shoplifting.

Issue

Use of E-Scooters and illegal E-Bikes.

Action

Illegal use of e-scooters-We have received reports from Marston and Headington in regards to the illegal use of e-scooters. We have been informed that there are many people using illegal e-scooters and the rental ones being used anti socially such as on pavements and not abiding by traffic laws.

If you are seen by police using one of these E-Bikes, or E-Scooters on a public road - it will be seized and destroyed.

This month, a number of Operations have taken place in key areas where use of these vehicles has been reported. This includes London Road, Windmill Road, Westlands Drive and Headley Way. This has resulted in a number of e-scooters and e-bikes being seized and destroyed.

PCSOs have the powers to seize these under Section 165 Road Traffic Act , if you are spotted using one of these vehicles illegally, it will be seized and destroyed.

Issue

Increase in theft of pedal cycle and theft from motor vehicle - John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford

Action

Officers have been conducting foot patrols around the John Radcliffe Hospital and surrounding areas. Analysis has identified the location as a hotspot for vehicle crime and bike theft. Officers are patrolling and engaging with locals and visitors to encourage securing vehicles and removing valuables. If you are visiting the hospital, please engage with officers, we are here to ensure your visit is safe and reduce crime.

This month as a result of the increase in these patrols, Officers apprehended a prolific bike thief at the location, who was arrested and charged with numerous theft offences.

PCSO BISHOP also ran a community Have Your Say&event which resulted in a number of engagements with the public offering crime prevention advice and support.
Please continue to report these incidents to police.
