Current Priorities
Issue
There is an issue with drug dealers operating on Coventry Road and persons using drugs along the Coventry Road and local parks near to the location. We are seeing a rise in anti social behaviour around this location
Action
We are working with partners from Birmingham City Council and Statutory Organisations to tackle anti-social behaviour, including drug use around shops on the Coventry Road. We are engaging with street workers in a support first approach.
Operation Hafren was a huge success and lead to large enforcement in the area. Following on from this work we have been able to secure a closure order on one store for being concerned in the supply and are pursuing more
Issue
There is an issue with vehicles parking illegally around Bordesley Green
Action
We are working with Birmingham City Council Parking Enforcement to identify key locations that suffer the worst inconsiderate parking. We know that the majority of vehicles are owned locally, so we are using a mixture of education and enforcement, to persuade residents to be more considerate.
Consistent enforcement on a daily basis has been conducted. Regular operations with DVLA have also been conducted to remove vehicles. This enforcement will continue
We have now cleared over a hundred vehicles from Small Heath and Bordesley green since January. These are all for obstructions, no insurance, no tax or no MOT
Issue
Issues identified with vehicles speeding across the area and a rise in the fatal four offences
Action
Multi agency operations to tackle the fatal four (speeding, drink/drug driving, using a mobile phone, not wearing seatbelt).
Sometimes you will see us on our own with a handheld speed device to catch speeding drivers. Other times you will see us parked up with partners from DVSA, West Midlands Fire Service, Taxi Licensing, VOSA and many more, providing education to drivers and removing vehicles form the road that shouldn’t be there.
We are also introducing community speedwatch, to help focus attention on the dangers of speeding.
Speedwatch is conducted daily to assist in reducing speeding offences
On the 17th April we conducted a Multi Agency Road Safety Operation where we seized a number of vehicles, gave out over 30 fixed penalty notices and checked over 30 vehicles for there road worthiness. We will be conducting these regularly
Issue
Whilst this issue has not been raised local communities, it is a clear concern locally and nationally. Serious youth violence has increased year on year. We will be working with our partners both internally and externally to educate early, increase enforcement, protect the exploited and introduce more proactive activity.
Action
We are engaging with local schools and colleges to educate on knife crime and its impact. We will also be undertaking proactive operations to discover weapons on school premises
Several officers are now working in partnership with our schools officers to put regular interventions in place at schools with a number of operations planned
