Issue
Consistent issues around begging at Traffic lights and surrounding businesses are a cause for concerns for their individual safety on the roads and ensuring the right help and right care is in place for those individuals. Enforcement of issuing CPW/CPN and CBO's should there be a consistent breach.
Action
We have been issuing Community Protection Warnings (CPW) to those involved in begging at the traffic lights along the Coventry Road and outside of businesses around the Yew Tree and Swan Shopping Centre. Some individuals have already broken their conditions of this warning and this has been escalated to a Community Protection Notice (CPN). This will give officers powers of arrest to prevent this from continuing and ensuring they get the right help and right care for their needs. As a result, we are seeing a decline in those attending to the location. But we are aware this can also bring litter too and we will look into getting this cleared.
Issue
Reduce crime in and around the Swan shopping centre and Yew Tree – specifically focusing on Shoplifters, ASB and Street Cohort. To also support businesses with their daily issues and concerns and give them a voice with regular meetings.
Action
We are still conducting our Business Watch meetings at two key locations of the Yew Tree and Swan Shopping centre and we are now in the process of doing this along the Coventry Road and Heybarnes. More details are to follow for the Coventry Road and Heybarnes meetings. The Yew Tree and Swan have been provided with their letters of the next meeting in the coming month. By businesses attending this they will be given a voice to be heard about the ongoing issues in the area and any harm impacting their business.
We know some external factors can cause an issue I.e. street furniture and this is being looked into currently to get some removed to prevent this becoming a location for ASB or associated crime matters.
Issue
Reduce various types of Vehicle Crime in the area with conducting patrols around targeted hot spot areas, asking other departments to support. Where possible to seize vehicles for no tax and SORN whilst being parked on the road. Issuing tickets to those parking dangerously, on zigzags amongst other associated vehicle crime.
Action
Vehicle crime is a concern of many in the community and this can be from parking, anti-social use of a vehicle, speeding, cannibalising, theft of and from a motor vehicle. Patrols are being conducted to those hot spot areas and this is being monitored. We are seizing vehicles for various reasons whether this be used in crime, no tax, abandoned, no insurance, stolen and amongst many other reasons. We will continue to work on this and are currently monitoring anyone involved in this crime and we will conduct visits and monitor their behaviour and liaise with other partner agencies to assist us in tackling this.
Issue
To rebuild the trust back in the community by being consistent with projects, meetings and to ensure we are consistent with these. In order to get more members involved in our Street Watch scheme and Empowered Steps, amongst other local projects. To be open and transparent with our results and sharing these to the community.
Action
We know we have a long way to go with building trust in the community but, we need you, your eyes and ears to let us know what is happening in the area to support you with making a difference. We will reach out to local authorities and other partner agencies to assist us in tackling any consistent issues that is happening and we will do everything to be transparent in any results or findings we have.
Issue
To reduce any Antisocial behaviour in and around residential blocks of flats or apartments with the use of Stop and Search, issuing ASB warning letters and speaking to others to support in the reduction of this behaviour.
Action
There have been a few reports coming into us regarding those under 25 attending to blocks of flats in the area and are causing ASB. We are doing everything we can with identifying these individuals involved and we will then use our powers to support in reducing this and issue those ASB and CPWs where possible and conduct home visits where required.
Issue
We are wanting to reduce and prevent any fly-tipping ongoing in the area. This being on residential and commercial roads.
Action
We are also seeing various areas this being residential and commercial streets being fly-tipped on. We are also reporting these issues to the local authority and we will seek to enforce should a vehicle be involved and seize this being used. So far, we have had some successes on this and we are expecting more to come.
