Current Priorities

Issue

Antisocial behaviour around the Masefield Estate and within the tower blocks, including rough sleeping and drug use. This is a recurring problem.

Action

Police/advice surgeries have been held in the Masefield community centre to discuss ongoing issues. These will take place regularly moving forward between the police and partner agencies.
Visits between PCSO's and local housing officers have taken place to targeted addresses. Further action will be taken by housing officers in these cases. If you have concerns about properties or people within them please inform your local team.
Officers have been working with our partner agencies to try to reduce Anti Social Behaviour and the fear of crime/disorder. We have conducted patrols in the tower blocks at random times and have engaged with a number of young people in the open spaces. This work will be ongoing.

Issue

Local businesses reporting business crime in Cotteridge alongside people (potentially homeless) loitering outside the shops leaving rubbish. This is a recurring problem.

Action

In the last month, local officers have taken part in Operation Advance targeting high street locations. the Dedicated neighbourhood officer for the area was present and liaised with shop workers and shoppers. On that occasion there were no current issues identified. We have completed further work and identified repeat shoplifting offenders and are completing case work around those in relation to ongoing criminal investigations.
The local team are present in the shopping area as often as they can be. We are still working with our partners in Birmingham City Councils community safety team in the area. They have been issuing community protection notices to those people found to be repeat offenders in the area - which has had a positive impact on the numbers of people loitering.
If you have any information on who is committing the thefts - or where the goods are being taken too, then please get in touch with one of the team or anonymously to crimestoppers. We would like to prevent the offending and will need the communities help and support.

Issue

Anti social behaviour and drug use in Stirchley linked to houses of multi occupancy (HMO).

Action

The local community have informed the Councillor for the area about problems linked to houses of multiple occupancy (HMO's). We have conducted a number of walks in the area with the councillor and spoken to the support providers for the properties that have been raised.
There is an ongoing matter with the planning department around the construction and use of certain properties linked to the ASB. This is going through a legal process at present and when we have a suitable update we will provide it.
The local team have plans in place to conduct visits to properties linked to the ASB in company with the exempt accommodation team at Birmingham City Council. These will take place in the next month and update will be provided.
