Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-social use of off road and road legal motorbikes across the local parkland

Action

We are still seeing the use of off road motorbikes (and road legal but badly ridden ones) around the Brandwood ward in recent months. This issue is not just a localised problem. We are linking in with our other departments and neighbouring policing areas to utilise some of the skills they have which we do not such as the off road motorbike team and force traffic department.
In the last month we have conducted an Off Road Bike in company with the Road Harm Prevention team and other local neighbourhood teams. 2 arrests were made for assault where the offenders had used off road bikes and various riders were engaged with. The Road Harm Prevention team have supported with further patrols of the local area following intelligence supplied by the public.

We are still working with Birmingham city council and parks department around the access points to local parks. There are disruption tactics for vehicles being discussed but these are a long term problem solving tactic. This may require funding through local community groups so we will look to support any local groups wanting to resolve these matters with us.

Issue

Poor driving standards across the ward.

Action

Your local PCSO, Nadeem Mahmood, has been in the community setting up a community speedwatch group. This is now complete and training has been delivered. We are always looking for further support though if anyone would like to set up or join a community speedwatch group.
We have some community speedwatch operations arranged for the coming month in the area, alongisde a joint operation with neighbouring Kings Heath team as well.
With the new neighbourhood structure, we have the ability to utilise other PCSO's and PC's from across the Selly Oak constituency into this issue and will be putting on larger impromptu speeding operations across the ward where the public tell us the problems persist.
Information is also requested from the public and, where possible, footage of reckless driving or speeding can be sent to the Operation Snap section of the West Midlands Police website. This allows people with dashcam/mobile phone footage of poor driving to supply it to the police and consideration can be given to prosecuting those offences.

Issue

Crime and Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) linked to Partons Road, Kings Road.

Action

Local people have informed the team about land on Partons Road at the junction of Kings Road where unknown individuals have discarded bulk items. These have recently been set on fire causing disruption in the area.
Local PCSO is establishing who the land belongs to and will be interacting with the local youths who have been seen to congregate near to this land with a view to preventing further issues.

I would ask the local community to use the messaging ability on this site and let us know directly of any other issues in this area - or of locations for us to target to drive down the business crime/shop lifting issues and youth based ASB that is occurring.
