Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-social behaviour in the City Centre, in the form of in the form of Electric-Bikes being ridden through the pedestrian areas and drug use and street drinking. The key locations here are around Millenium Place, and Pool Meadow bus station.

Action

The St Michaels Neighbourhood Team is working with Coventry City Council Neighbourhood Enforcement Officers to stop riders of these bikes in the area that ride carelessly. We are using powers under the Public Space Protection Order to require riders to dismount when riding carelessly. We have also issued community protection warnings in relation to street drinking, and targeting our stop and search focus in these areas.
This priority will form part of Coventry's Operation Advance in August, whereby many of the resources and Force assets come to Coventry for enhanced focus Police activity and we will look to work alongside Immigration colleagues in delivering targeted work in this area. Ongoing review.

St Michaels Neighbourhood officers conduct regular patrols of the key areas where young people gather to engage with young people, and deter offenders by visible and covert deployment of officers. Where search grounds exist, officers utilise stop and search powers, in response to dynamic incidents and intelligence led activity. Ongoing review.
We continue to see Robbery offences within the City Centre, and are responding by directed patrols, and being supporting by additional Force resources including colleagues from our Safer Travel Team who target the area around Pool Meadow Bus Station. In addition, our Operational Support Unit also assist with patrols across the whole City Centre looking for Robbery offenders.
