Current Priorities

Issue

The Stratford Road corridor and Parkgate in Shirley are vibrant centres of the community and shop crime impact on the safety and enjoyment of shoppers and employees alike. We understand the impact that business crime has on our partners and their livelihoods and we pledge to work in concert with the Local Authority and businesses to it more efficiently and promote the well-being of our town.

Action

Daily patrols along the Stratford Road of both plain clothed and uniformed officers is allowing identification of prolific offenders and allowing for proactive work to be used to prevent offences before they are being committed. 2 offenders have been arrested in the past week receiving sentences up to 12 months in prison and one offender also wanted for offences in another force area. Work is ongoing to support businesses in the area to prevent and deter other offenders with the development of a business group.

Issue

Our communities can be confident that they live in a relatively safe place. Unfortunately theft of motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicles can be a problem. Therefore we will look to combine proactive operations, using overt police tactics and technological initiatives, with bespoke crime prevention methods, to reduce the effect that vehicle crime has on people’s lives and livelihoods.

Action

Officers have been carrying out high visibility patrols around the Shirley area and using ANPR technology to assist with targeting individuals linked to vehicle crime. WMnow has been used to provide crime prevention advice as well as high visibility patrols around areas that have been victims of car crime for reassurance, guidance and support with crime prevention advice.

Issue

It goes without saying that everyone should feel safe in their home, and it is important to underline that the great majority of the time, people’s homes are safe. However we recognise that burglary is a very traumatic and impactive experience so will prioritise not only the way we respond to reports of burglary, but the way we try to prevent it happening in the first place. We will combine intelligence led proactive patrols, targeting of offenders, crime prevention initiatives and wraparound victim care to focus on reducing the occurrence and impact of burglary.

Action

Reassurance and targeted patrols in areas of Shirley that have been victims of recent burglaries. Use of WMnow to provide security advice to home owners and warn them of criminal activity in the area. Reassurance patrols conducted around the affected areas and 3 home owners visited this week who had been impacted by burglaries and provided with materials to prevent further occurrences.

Issue

In Solihull, as in the rest of West Midlands Police force area, we are dedicated to tackling and reducing domestic violence wherever it occurs and safeguarding victims from future abuse. We are also committed to raising awareness of VAIWG and making our public places as safe as possible so that women and girls can enjoy everything Solihull has to offer with confidence.

Action

Daily patrols around the Shirley town centre and surrounding area to provide reassurance and presence in public spaces for women and girls to feel safe and confident to attend.
CPN issued to 3 individuals who were hanging around Parkgate, Stratford Road causing fear and intimidation to residents and businesses.
