Current Priorities
Issue
Wibsey Ward Area
- To target anti-social vehicle, use, nuisance off road quads and bikes. This will be achieved by utilising Police specialist units, working with partners, dealing positively with offenders using Police and local authority powers / legislation, operation Steerside operations, leaflet drops / intelligence gathering and seizing off road quads and bikes.
- To deal with parking and obstruction issues in the village. This will be achieved by providing an increased visible presence in the area, working with traffic enforcement officers issuing tickets and carrying out traffic enforcement operations.
- To deal with speeding issues. This will be achieved by utilising partnership awareness campaigns, Police monitoring (community speed watch) and enforcement
- To reduce begging and theft related offences at Morrisons on Mayo Avenue. This will be achieved by providing crime reduction advice, working with HOP (homeless outreach team) to provide help and support to those people with addictions (drugs / alcohol), arrest persistent beggars and increasing visible patrols in the area.
Action
- Fair road (anti-social vehicle use) - We have been encouraging people to submit CCTV / dash cam footage of anti-social vehicle use to ‘operation snap’ , following reports from residents of vehicles driving on pavements (we held a PACT meeting with residents to discuss their concerns). Since April 2024, the prosecution and casualty prevention unit have processed 28 submissions on Fair Road in Wibsey (6 x offences of driving without due care and attention and 22 x offences of driving on a pavement), resulting in either summons or a fixed penalty.
- Wibsey village and surrounding area (parking & obstruction)– We have maintained an increased Police presence in the area, carried out a joint NPT and Council warden’s road safety / traffic enforcement operation, issuing 18 x tickets for various traffic related offences.
- Wibsey ward (speeding) – The specialist off road motorbike team carried out an operation in the Wibsey area and they issued 7 x traffic offence reports for speeding.
- The crime reduction officer has visited the store and provided advice to the management and staff to help reduce theft at the store. The beggars have been identified and referrals completed. Regular patrols continue to be carried out at the store by local NPT officers as part of their daily patrol plans.
Issue
Great Horton Ward Area
To tackle ASB/nuisance/begging at key locations such as the Tesco Superstore, Great Horton Road
To tackle ongoing Burglary and Theft From Motor Vehicle crime within the area through pro-active patrols, offering crime prevention advice to residents and taking positive action where required.
To tackle ASB/fly-tipping issues within Scholemoor Cemetery and the surrounding area.
To tackle the anti-social use of vehicles and speeding issues within the ward area by conducting regular speedwatch initiatives and traffic operations.
Working with partners to tackle highway/parking issues near to Brackenbeck Road/Spencer Road.
Robustly dealing with obstructive parking issues across the ward area through increasing patrols in the neighbourhoods and working alongside wardens and taking enforcement action.
Action
- We have completed numerous operations over the last month and made 5 arrests for various offences including vagrancy. We have also issued ASB warning letters to children who have caused ASB at the store.
- Officers have conducted high visibility patrols in the areas of high crime to reassure the public and reduce crime. Officers have also conducted cocoons in areas and signed members of the public up to community alerts.
- We are conducting patrols of the cemetery throughout our shifts to identifying anyone causing issues in the cemetery, we’re also liaising with partners to try securing the gate of the cemetery after a certain time to reduce access.
- We’re regularly conducting speed watch operation across the ward and officers are targeting vehicles committing driving offences.
- We’re working alongside our partners to conduct days of action and seizing vehicles without insurance/tax or causing obstruction.
Issue
Queensbury Ward Area
- To continue to obtain & execute warrants, follow up & develop drugs intelligence to disrupt the supply of controlled drugs in the area.
- To work with partners, community groups and schools to reduce ASB in the area in the form of inconsiderate parking at Home Farm, Shibden Head and Foxhill Primary schools
- To address the issues of ASB at Russell Hall Park and surrounding areas, as well as West End/Sandbeds at school finish times.
- To tackle the anti-social use of vehicles and speeding issues within the village by conducting regular speedwatch initiatives and traffic operations.
- To tackle ongoing Burglary and Theft From Motor Vehicle crime within the area through pro-active patrols, offering crime prevention advice to residents and taking positive action where required.
- Robustly dealing with off-road bike issues in the ward area through working alongside Op Steerside colleagues and taking positive action against perpetrators.
Action
- We’re regularly reviewing drug intelligence and continue to execute warrants within the ward targeting drug supply and cannabis farms.
- Officers are in contact partners including community groups, schools and deal with any issues within ward regarding ASB or parking outside schools.
- Officers are conducting daily patrols of Russell Hall Park due to the recent ASB issues and the homeless male now residing in a tent within the park. Officers are liaising with ASB teams/Housing to try get the male rehoused.
- We’re regularly conducting speed watch operation across the ward and officers are targeting vehicles committing driving offences.
- Officers have conducted high visibility patrols in the areas of high crime to reassure the public and reduce crime. Officers have also conducted cocoons in areas and signed members of the public up to community alerts.
- Steerside are aware of the issues regarding off-road bikes in the area and are regularly conducting patrols and dealing with the suspects positively.
Issue
Royds Ward Area
- To target anti-social vehicle, use, nuisance off road quads and bikes. This will be achieved by utilising Police specialist units, working with partners, dealing positively with offenders using Police and local authority powers / legislation, operation Steerside operations, leaflet drops / intelligence gathering and seizing off road quads and bikes.
- To deal with speeding issues. This will be achieved by utilising partnership awareness campaigns, Police monitoring (community speed watch) and enforcement.
- To reduce anti-social behaviour and begging at Tesco on Halifax Road. This will be achieved by increasing visible patrols in the area, working with staff at the store to try and identify those people responsible, referrals to the ASB team & early action team for their involvement / interventions, working with the outreach team to provide help and support those people with addictions (drugs / alcohol misuse), arresting persistent offenders and securing CBOs (community behaviour orders) and working with youth services to provide youth engagement / diversionary activities for those people involved in ASB.
Action
- Royds (anti-social vehicle use / off road quads and bikes) – Specialist traffic officers carried out an operation in the area to tackle anti-social behaviour and the fatal five offences (failing to wear a seatbelt, speeding, driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs, driving whilst using a mobile phone and driving without due care and attention). During the iniative they issued the following traffic offence reports, 2 x speeding, 9 x glass not as prescribed,1 x fail to maintain lamps, 4 x VRM not confirming to regulation, 1 x no MOT, 1 x no tax, 4 x no seatbelts, 3 x dangerous parts, 1 x mobile phone, 2 x no insurance and no licence, Two vehicles were also seized.
- Royd ward (speeding) – Speed watch operations have been carried out at several locations across the ward where residents have highlighted speeding vehicles as a concern. Traffic officers have also issued 2 x speeding fines to drivers caught exceeding the speed limit.
- Eight youths involved in ASB and three people begging outside the store have been identified. All of the youths have been served yellow warning letters in the presence of their parents, and all have been referred to the early action team for further involvement / intervention. Two persistent beggars have been reported for summons for vagrancy. Meetings have been held with the management team at the store to discuss them issuing banning orders to repeat offenders. Regular visits / patrols continue to be carried out at the store by local NPT officers as part of their daily patrol plans. All of the above actions have resulted in a significant reduction in calls for service.
Issue
Wyke Ward Area
- To Tackle speeding and Anti-Social Driving on Huddersfield Road, Cleckheaton Road and Westfield Lane.
- To work with other departments, businesses and the Local Authority to reduce the ASB caused by vehicles and people attending at Euroway Industrial Estate in the evenings.
- To disrupt the supply of controlled drugs within the ward by increasing intelligence from partners and the Community.
Action
- We have conducted 2 vehicle operations in the Wyke area to remove untaxed and uninsured vehicles from the Wyke area and these have been a great success. This was in conjunction with the vehicle enforcement team from Bradford Council. We have also conducted Speedwatch dates at Tong Village, Shetcliffe Lane, and Lower Wyke Lane to enforce speed and advise drivers of local restrictions.
- Local PC’s and PCSO’s make regular patrols of ASB hotspots including the shops at Wyke and various youth congregation points around the Wycoller and Wyke estates. They have also responded to calls from the St Marys crescent areas and are working with In communities to offer support to residents who have been experiencing ASB.
Issue
Tong Ward Area
- To work with partners, community groups and schools to reduce the ASB and damage caused by young people on Broadstone Way and Tong Street at Knowles Park.
- To work with Partners and agencies to take a proactive approach tackling Serious Organised Crime across the ward area.
- To work with other departments, businesses and the Local Authority to reduce the ASB caused by vehicles and people attending at Euroway Industrial Estate in the evenings.
- To target and prevent the use of knives and knife related crime and reduce violent crime by initiating the introduction of fixed knife amnesty bins, regular robust and fair use of stop search powers and high visibility patrols in hotspot areas.
Action
- Officers from Bradford South have conducted two vehicle operations in conjunction with the council vehicle enforcement team which has led to the removal of 11 unregistered and untaxed vehicles and over 20 caravans from the ward area. This operation will continue in the coming months.
- NPT officers make regular targeted patrols of Holmewood and a new contact point has been set up at the community café which takes place on a Tuesday morning for residents to drop in and talk to a local PCSO and raise issues. The time now is 10am but will be subject to change depending on demand.
- Intelligence continues to be received and acted on in relation to drug dealing and cannabis cultivation and this has led to the discovery and seizure of several large scale cannabis productions which are currently under investigation.
- The knife amnesty bins are under order from British Iron works and we are hoping to install one of these in the local community in the coming months. We also continue working with educational partners to bring programmes to schools in the area and these will be advertised locally
