Current Priorities

Issue

Holme Valleys Ward Area

  1. To address reports of Anti-Social Behaviour in the Broadlands area of Meltham we will conduct targeted, high visibility patrols across the ward with an aim to reduce reports of ASB. We will work with partner agencies, our Anti-social Behaviour Team, and Kirklees Housing using a joint and smart approach towards implementing more long term interventions. We will take enforcement action against those suspects/main protagonists who will be dealt with for any criminal offences using ASB legislation.

  2. To target residential burglary offences in the Holme Valleys we will ensure all burglaries are revisited by the Neighbourhood Policing Team and crime prevention advice is offered. We will ensure areas of concern are targeted with high visibility patrols and leaflet drops.

  3. To address public concerns of youth Anti-Social Behaviour in the Honley area, we will conduct high visibility patrols at the affected locations, during peak times identified from call demand analysis and information provided by local communities.

  4. To target speeding vehicles and anti-social vehicle use across the Holme Valleys we will continue with speed checks, conduct high visibility patrols and work closely with partners where appropriate to reduce anti-social vehicle use.

  5. To target the ongoing issue of illegal drug taking/supply in the Holme Valleys we will continue to conduct proactive patrols, use stop and search powers when appropriate, and respond to community intelligence with the use of drug warrants when appropriate.

Action

  1. Barriers have now been erected at the two main entrances onto the Broadlands playing fields reducing access for off road bikes and quads. We still want to encourage local residents to report any instances of bikes on the fields and share information about offenders.

  2. Joint working between Rural Neighbourhoods Team and Kirklees CID has resulted in suspects from South Yorkshire offering guilty pleas to in excess of 30 residential burglaries in early 2024. Since this time the number of burglaries across Holme Valley has reduced dramatically and remains at a low level. We re-visit every victim to offer reassurance and crime prevention advice and continue to follow intelligence and target cross border offenders entering the area.

  3. We continue to work with partner agencies, our Anti-social Behaviour Team, and Kirklees Housing using a joint and smart approach towards implementing more long term interventions. We will take enforcement action against those suspects/main protagonists who will be dealt with for any criminal offences using ASB legislation.

  4. We will continue to arrange planned operations in line with the Fatal 5 offences (speed, mobile phones, drink and drug driving, no seat belt and careless driving) to address speeding and driving offences in the communities we serve, along with utilising Speed Indication Devices to raise public awareness. We are working with our Off Road Bike team to tackle nuisance motorcycles being used anti-socially both on and off road and will deal with offences robustly. We welcome any reports and information relating to these incidents.

  5. We have run several successful pro-active operations utilising drugs dogs to identify potential drug possession and supply, resulting in drug seizures. Our PubWatch meetings with Kirklees Licensing and local licensees allow us to work together and share information and challenge premises who are not working to prevent drug use and anti-social behaviour. Rural NPT continue to offer a visible presence in the night time economy each weekend.

Issue

Colne Valley and Golcar Ward Areas

1. Nuisance Bikes continue to present an issue for residents in the Cowlersley and Golcar areas.

2. Concerns raised for drug use and drug dealing around the Sycamore estate in Golcar and Local shops/drop in centre. We will target those involved in drug and gang related ASB around the area with a view to disrupting those involved. We will increase patrols and work together with partner agencies to reduce drug related crime and ASB in the area using ASB legislation where necessary.

Action

  1. We will work with safer Kirklees and the Off-Road bike team and increase patrols in these areas to counter this and reduce this antisocial behaviour.

  2. We will continue our intelligence-led proactive patrols in the Sycamore Estate to counter drug dealing, anti-social behaviour and nuisance bikes.

Issue

Dearne Valley Ward Area

  1. To target youth anti-social behaviour in Skelmanthorpe, in and around the Co-Op and surrounding areas during the evenings and weekends.

  2. To target anti-social vehicle use and speeding in and around the villages of Denby Dale, Birdsedge, Shelley and Shepley. We will aim to increase patrols in the area and conduct regular speed checks, in addition, conducting specific days of action using additional resources to target offenders.

  3. To target and reduce residential burglary offences in Denby Dale.

Action

  1. We have conducted increased high visibility patrols in the Skelmanthorpe area and will continue to liaise with partners and local schools in an effort to address the issues, proactively identifying and dealing with offenders to deliver educational inputs in respect of the impact of ASB. We will look to deter youths away from ASB and towards youth provision in the area.

  2. We have completed numerous days of action in the Denby Dale, Birdsedge, Shelley and Shepley areas to prevent, deter and detect offences involving the use of vehicles. We will continue to utilise officers from our Roads policing units to assist with speed checks and to help deliver education to the dangers of speeding and Anti-social vehicle use.

  3. We will continue to ensure all burglaries are revisited by the Neighbourhood Policing Team and crime prevention advice is offered. We will ensure partner agencies are utilised to provide support and guidance to those affected communities. We will ensure areas of concern are targeted with high visibility patrols and leaflet drops. We will ensure we work with South Yorkshire Police to complete increased patrols of the forces’ border and develop a working partnership to identify and arrest offenders.
