Current Priorities

Issue

Vehicle Theft

Action

To date we have had several reports of vehicles broken into in and around the Warminster area. It appears that the perpetrators have been targeting work vehicles, with the intent of stealing tools from these vehicles. In other incidents relating to personal vehicles, it appears to be an opportunistic theft.

During initial enquires, we found out that a majority of the vehicles targeted were left insecure by the owners.

Actions from the NPT:
- Regular mobile and Hi-vis patrols, especially during times of concern.
- Intel to be submitted accordingly.
- Crime prevention advice shared via Drop- ins, Community Messenger and our Social media platform.

Issue

Hare Coursing and Poaching

Action

We have had increased amount of reports and incidents of hare coursing and poaching in Wiltshire. Especially, in the north parts of the Warminster patch between Hindon and East Knoyle. This escalation highlights a growing recognition of the harm that these activities cause to wildlife, rural communities and the environment. Therefore, this increased focus has led NPT to improve and support coordination to Rural Crime Team.

Actions from the NPT:
- Regular Patrols in Rural Areas, especially known for this type of activities
- Develop Intelligence Networks with local farmers and community members
- Help to establish quicker response to hare coursing and poaching
- Engage and Educate the Community

Issue

Agricultural Theft

Action

To date, agricultural theft is a high impact crime that affects rural communities on multiple levels from financial stability due to stolen high value machinery such as trailers or tractors and ranging to being a victim of live stock crime.

Actions from the NPT:
- Increase Rural Patrols and Visibility
- Collaborate with local communities
- Encourage rural communities to use of surveillance and technology
- Conduct security assessment with local farmers
- Encourage rural communities to use property marking and registration
- Conduct Public awareness measures through social media, highlighting local authority contacts providing the preventative measures to be passed on to the wider public domain, and tips on how to secure equipment and property.
